- We recommend that visitors arrive in Cusco at least 2 or 3 days before the Ausangate 7 Lakes tour to help their body adapt to the high altitude and avoid possible discomfort during the hike. Cusco sits at 3,350 meters (11,050 ft), and the Ausangate area rises well above 4,000 meters.
- Cusco is served by the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport, with daily flights from Lima and other cities. Air travel is the quickest and most comfortable way to reach Cusco.
- Traveling by bus from Lima to Cusco takes approximately 22 hours. If you prefer land travel, it is best to divide the journey into segments, such as Lima – Ica – Arequipa – Puno – Cusco, to make the trip more pleasant.
- There are many hotels, hostels, and lodges in Cusco to suit all budgets. Let us know if you need help selecting or booking accommodations—we’ll be glad to assist.

- The Ausangate 7 Lakes hike involves traveling through the high Andes, where weather can change rapidly. The ideal time to visit is during the dry season, from April to October, when the sky is clearer and trails are more stable. However, tours are available year-round depending on weather and road conditions.

Itinerary
Begin your adventure with a pick-up from your accommodation in Cusco between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. We’ll then embark on a two-hour drive to the village of Tinki. From Tinki, we’ll continue driving for approximately 2 more hour to reach the starting point of our hike, where we’ll enjoy breakfast.
After breakfast, we’ll commence our hike, trekking gently uphill for about one and a half hours to reach the first lake. From this point, the remaining six lakes will be easily accessible, with the terrain becoming mostly flat or downhill. We’ll have ample time to capture stunning photos of the lakes and surrounding glaciers.
Following our hike, we’ll indulge in a delicious lunch and unwind with a soothing soak in the thermal baths, all while taking in the breathtaking view of Ausangate. Finally, we’ll make our way back to Cusco, which should take around three hours.

Swimming is not recommended due to the extreme cold and the cultural importance of the lakes to local communities.
