Cusco The ancient Inca citadel Choquequirao, in Cusco, was chosen as one of the 20 best tourist destinations for 2015 worldwide, by the prestigious National Geographic Traveler magazine.
The ancient city of Choquequirao shows the vestiges of the Inca ancestors and their culture. It is located exactly in the province of La Convencion Quillabamba. and its ruins are so majestic that they are easily compared to Machu Picchu. It even comes to be called “the sister city of Machu Picchu” for its similarity in architecture and landscapes that surround it. To get there, tourists will have a wonderful trekking experience, from a distance of 60 kilometers or 37.5 miles for 4 days. It takes place in one of the deepest canyons on the planet formed by the well-known Apurimac River. The tourist travels majestic snowfalls and fearsome cliffs. You can see great landscapes and vegetation, with the respective specialized and authorized agency travel.
Day 1: Challenge and pretty.
After picking up guests from their hotels at 4:30 am with our private bus, we will start our journey towards San Pedro de Cachora village situated at (2,900 m or 9,570 ft.) Where we will have a welcome breakfast. After breakfast we will reach by bus the Capuliyoc panoramic point (2,800 m /9200 ft.) where we will star to Hike Capuliyuc – Chiquisca – Playa Rosalindas y Santa Rosa.
Hiking 09 hours approximately distance (16 km – 10 miles).
Day 2: challenge – Choquequirao.
We will get up early, have breakfast and begin our hike by crossing Marampata town. We will camp at the Choquequirao Inca site. Hike Santa Rosa – Maranpata and Choquequirao.
Hiking 6 hours approximately distance (12 km – 7.5 miles).
Day 3: Choquequirao – challenge . Maisal.
We Will get up early have breakfast and begin our hike to Choquequirao Pass after down crossing Pinchayunuyoc to Maisal.
Hiking 9 hours approximately distance (15 km – 9.5 miles).
Day 4: challenge hike.
Waking up on the hillside with the sounds of the forest and birds is a truly great experience. Hike Maizal – Minas Victoria and Yanama.
Hiking 08 hours approximately distance (18 km – 11.25 miles).
Day 5: stunning hike.
We then start hiking uphill to the highest pass Yanama (4700 m/15419 ft.) Here, we can observe one of the Incan Gods Hke Salcantay Mountain. Yanama – Totora – Collpa pampa.

Day 6: High Jungle.
impressive day and humid. In this route we will observe a great variety of flora and fauna including beautiful orchids. Hike Collpapampa – Sahuayaco y Lucmabamaba.
Hiking 5 hours approximately distance (15 km – 9.5 miles).
Day 7: llactapata.
Coffee tour in the area and a nice hike to the top from there we will enjoy one of the most spectacular views of Machupicchu. Hike Lucmabamba – llactapata – hidroelectrica and Aguas Calientes.
Hiking 10 hours approximately distance (20 km – 13 miles).
Day 8: Machupicchu.
or our last day we will have to catch a very early bus at 5:30 am to reach the Machupicchu. The site opens at 6:00 am and we will head towards the “guardian house” which is the perfect spot for “postcard” pictures and some of the best views.

- We recommend our hikers to arrive in Cusco 2 or 3 days before their trek. This will allow you to acclimatize to the height so as not to have problems in the walk.
- In Cusco we have only one main airport, most flights arrive from Lima to Cusco, which is the most recommended and easiest for our tourists.
- The trip from Lima to Cusco by bus is quite long approximately 22 hours and it is not recommended that you travel directly to Cusco. If you want to do it, we recommend that you do it by sections Lima – Nazca – Arequipa – Puno and Cusco.
- In Cusco we have many hotels located throughout the city of Cusco. If you need help booking a hotel or would like some recommendations on where to stay, do not hesitate to contact us.
- Arriving in Cusco you have extra days before or after your walk. We are happy to help you organize some more important tours as there are tourists who want to spend more days in the imperial city of the Incas.
- We offer free pick up and transfer from the airport to your hotel in Cusco. We do this in order that you don’t have to worry about anything. Let us know in advance the airline company, the schedule and flight number that arrives in Cusco.
- Near the weather, Cusco is located at 3,350 m or 11,050 ft. which makes the weather very difficult to predict. In Cusco, we have two seasons; the rainy season, which runs from November to March, and the dry season, from April to October. We recommend the dry season that is from April to October. But for some tourists the stations don’t matter and they plan their tour according to the time they have and it is possible to organize some tours according to the weather.
- At near altitude sickness or soroche, Cusco is located at 3,350 m or 11,050 ft. Therefore, the air is short, dry and difficult to breathe for which it is recommended to arrive in Cusco 2 or 3 days in advance of the tour

Itinerary
After picking up guests from their hotels at 4:30 am with our private bus, we will start our journey towards San Pedro de Cachora village situated at (2,900 m or 9,570 ft.). Where we will have a welcome breakfast. After breakfast we will reach by bus the Capuliyoc panoramic point (2,800 m / 9,240 ft.) where we will enjoy spectacular views of the Vilcabamba mountain range overlooking the Apurimac canyon. In our tour we will observe the local flora and fauna, and if we are lucky we will be able to spot some condors flying and nose-diving into the depths of the Apurimac canyon, one of Peru’s deepest and most beautiful.
We will then cross the Apurimac River and after a steep climb we will reach our first campsite called Santa Rosa.

After an early breakfast we will continue with our tour where we will observe the making of craft cane liquor and we will have the opportunity to taste a brandy called ‘Cambray’ made with sugar cane. The next stop will be the Marampata region (2,850 m – 9,240 ft.) where we will enjoy a spectacular view of the archaeological site Choquequirao. On our path we will encounter a variety of plants and a warm climate until reaching the Rayampata area, where our campsite will be located. We will then head towards Choquequirao (3,000 m / 9,900 ft.) where we will visit the most important sites and take spectacular photos.

Before breakfast, we recommend going to appreciate the magnificent sunrise from this picturesque spot! We will have breakfast at 6 AM.
We start today’s trek passing through and exploring the Choquequirao ruins. We hike uphill through cloud forest, mountains, and valleys to reach the Choquequirao pass.
After 5 hours trekking, the trail continues through agricultural terraces called Pinchaunuyuc. ,
There we will see different species of birds, varieties of orchids, and local coca plantations.
We will have our lunch near the Rio Blanco. We use the break here to take a refreshing dip in the cold, clear river water if you would like.
We cross the river by walking because there are no bridges.
On the other side, we start the long, steep climb to our camp in Maizal high over the river and closer to the sacred Apus of the Incas. This climb takes about 3 hours. This is the most challenging day. We will camp at (3000 m – 9842 ft.).

Waking up on the hillside with the sounds of the forest and birds is a truly great experience! Recharging our energy with a good breakfast and following the trail upward, the landscape is lush green vegetation.
If we keep up our motivation and the gods give us a clear sky, we will be able to just sit and appreciate the snow-capped mountains around us. The uphill climb today is around 7 hours to the summit, and this trail is historically important due to some archaeological remains and Inca channels along the way.
We will pass by the impressive Incan mines called Minas Victoria, from which silver used to be extracted. and head toward the Victoria Pass (4200 m/13770ft.)
This is a long climb, but we will walk through an absolutely breath-taking area, first with cloud forest and then over the Andean Puna with its well-known Ichu grass.
As we approach the top, we can appreciate original paved Inca trails. We will have lunch on the pass with views of the mountains Choquetakarpo and Padreyoc.
While we have lunch, we will hopefully be able to appreciate the flight of the condors, depending on the climate.
Finally, we will descend to our campsite at Yamana, a small village settlement at the bottom of a long valley surrounded by mountains (3800 m – 12467 ft.)

The native community of Yamana surrounds the base camp. We begin another long day with the big smiles of local children, the sun is shining on camp ground, the noise of a grand waterfall, and breakfast on a table outside to appreciate everything around us.
We then start hiking uphill to the highest pass in this trek (5 hours). This is Yamana pass (4700 m – 15419 ft.)
During the day, it is common to observe the Andean farmers growing potatoes in their fields and possibly even some frozen potatoes. Again, the view will be amazing from here as we will be surrounded by the mountain ranges of Saqsarayoc and
Padreyoc. Once again, we have the chance to see condors flying about, and this morning’s smooth climb brings us through new landscapes – especially the wet grass fields under the snowline and water stream.
In the pass, we may be walking through snow in a new entrance to the Santa Teresa Valley. Here, we can observe one of the Incan Gods – Salcantay Mountain.
Afterward, we descend on a long, foggy path through grassy fields and bush areas, crossing bridges on the way to the community of Totora. where we will have lunch
After a short break we continue to hike to Collpa Pampa our camp site.

At 5:30 we will have our usual wake up mate tea before having breakfast and starting an easy walk towards our third campsite called Sawayaco (also known as la playa) where we will have lunch. Throughout this route we will observe a great variety of flora and fauna including beautiful orchids.
In the afternoon you have the option to visit the local thermal and medicinal baths (not included). For this tour you need to seek private transportation (the journey takes 1 hour each way). Once there you will decide how long to enjoy the lovely baths before returning to the camp site.

At 5:00 am we will have our last wake up tea and at 5:30 our last breakfast. We will then walk for 10 minutes along a road before joining another beautiful section of an Inca trail, which will lead us to the Llactapata archeological site. Here we will enjoy one of the most spectacular views of Machupicchu. This section of the trail lasts about 3 hours after which we will walk a further 2:30 hours until the Aobamba valley and finally Hidroelectrica where is the lunch. From there we will to hike until Aguas Calientes village. Here we will stay in a hotel and we will have our last dinner.

We will then start our guided tour, which will last approximately 2 hours, where we will visit the most important sites. After the tour you will have time to visit Machu Picchu on your own. You also have the option to climb the Huaynapicchu or Montaña Machupicchu mountains (these have to be reserved in advance). In the afternoon we will get on the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo and from there we will provide you with private transport to your hotel in Cusco.
