Peru and the end less natural beauties that we can find throughout its territory never cease to amaze us and this adventure will be no different. If you are an admirer of the mountains, adventure and camping, this proposal is perfect for you. Together with the group of travelers we will make a unique tour that will take us through amazing places.

We will begin our journey feeling the traditions of the Peruvian people in Cusco and then go for 5 days to trek along the ancient Salkantay route until we reach the wonderful Citadel of Machu Picchu. We will pass through the spectacular Humantay Lagoon and cross the Salkantay pass reaching 4650 meters above sea level, which will be the maximum altitude of our route. From there, we will begin our descent into the Andean jungle to finally reach the lost city and let ourselves be enveloped by all the energy and history it contains.

Throughout nine days we will have the pleasure of taking a tour that will take us both to sacred mountains and to one of the highest points of the Andean massifs of the Cusco region and you can be part of it. Cheer up for this adventure that will make you feel Peru like you never imagined.

We provide a full pre-trek briefing at our office in Cusco the evening before your departure. You will meet your guide and receive important details about the route, equipment, and safety protocols.

You will be accompanied by a chef, kitchen assistants, and muleteers who help carry camping gear and food during the trek.

We recommend arriving in Cusco at least 2 to 3 days before the trek to properly acclimatize to the altitude.
Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ) is the closest airport to the city. Most flights connect through Lima.
If traveling by bus from Lima, the trip takes approximately 22 hours.
There are accommodations in Cusco for all budgets. We can help you reserve hotels before and after the trek.
We offer additional day tours if you have extra days, including Humantay Lake, Maras & Moray, and the South Valley.

Weather conditions vary greatly. The dry season (April to October) is the best time to visit.
The highest point on the Salkantay Trek is 4,630 meters (15,190 ft). Altitude sickness is possible. Prepare accordingly.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at the airport of Cusco, your tour guide will meet you at the airport and drive you to your centrally located hotel. Later in the afternoon, at 13:00 pm, you will start a walking tour in the center of Cusco, visiting the most remarkable places like Plaza de Armas, Koricancha, and important streets. Next, you will drive to Sacsayhuaman, Quenqo, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay. The tour will finish back at your hotel.

After breakfast in your hotel, The tour guide will collect you from the hotel at 8:00 am and drive across the Sacred Valley mountains. On the way, you will stop at the Awanacancha alpaca farm. Here you can see llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, guanacos and learn the difference between them. Then continue to Mirador of Taray, a lookout point with spectacular views of the Sacred Valley, the Andes’ eastern mountain range, and the Urubamba River. Later, you will head to the Pisaq archeological site, a very well preserved Inca settlement built on top of the mountain. Explore impressive agricultural terraces, the thousands of tombs, palaces, houses surrounded by enormous walls, and the Sacred Valley’s beautiful vistas. After exploring, You will drive to Pisaq town to visit the handicraft market, very famous because the local artisans produce their textiles and sell them directly to the tourist. After bargaining in the market, you will drive for 1 hour to lunch at a Urubamba local restaurant. You will have a variety of dishes prepared with fresh products from the area. After enjoying a delicious lunch, you will drive and discover Ollantaytambo’s fortress, walk along the narrow Inca streets in the town, and head back to Cusco. On the way, you will visit Chinchero, explore the well preserve Inca site, visit the colonial church built over the Inca Palaces, and finally visit the textile center to learn Andean textiles’ art. Drop off at your hotel around 6.00 pm.

Along the way you will enjoy outstanding views of the Andes, glaciers, red mountains, rocky hills, and South American camels in their own environment. After a 2-hours climb we will arrive at the “Rainbow Mountain”, our final destination, which is located at (5,020m/16,566ft.) Here we will be able to observe the snow-capped mountain of Ausangate, the highest in the Cusco region. After we will visit to some locals who still maintain their traditional way of living and their own language which is called Qechua, the language of the Incas. After the visit we will go down the same way and enjoying our delicious lunch then board our private transport to return to your hotels in Cusco.

After picking up guests from their hotels in Cusco (3,300 m/10,890 ft.) at 5 am with our private bus, we will head towards the village of Mollepata where we will have a small breakfast before continuing our journey towards Soraypampa (3,800 m or 12,540 ft.). Here we will start our walk whilst enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding valleys and Humantay lake. After a hill we will walk along a trail which will lead us to our first campsite called Salkantaypampa (4,200 m/13,800 ft.) were we spend the nighth.

At 5:00 we will have our first wake up” tea (Inca’s mate tea) which is a very tasty coca leaf tea. After breakfast we will start our walk towards a sacred place called “cove of Salkantay and Humantay”. Throughout this walk we will be able to observe spectacular glaciers. After the cove we will walk down for 2 hours until reaching Huayrac Machay where we will have a typical Andean lunch. After lunch we will head towards our second campsite. During this section of the walk the landscape begins to change from the typical Andean landscape to the “High Forest”, and we will be able to admire the spectacular local flora and fauna. Our second camp Collpapampa, where we will spend the night.

At 5:30 we will have our usual wake up mate tea before having breakfast and starting an easy walk towards our third campsite called Lucmabamba  where we will have lunch. Throughout this route we will observe a great variety of flora and fauna including beautiful orchids and coffe tour.
In the afternoon you have the option to visit the local thermal and medicinal baths (not included). For this tour you need to seek private transportation (the journey takes 1 hour each way). Once there you will decide how long to enjoy the lovely baths before returning to the camp site.

At 5:00 am we will have our last wake up tea and at 5:30 our last breakfast. We will then walk for 10 minutes along a road before joining another beautiful section of an Inca trail, which will lead us to the Llactapata archeological site. Here we will enjoy one of the most spectacular views of Machupicchu. This section of the trail lasts about 3 hours after which we will walk a further 2:30 hours until the Aobamba valley and finally Hidroelectrica where is the lunch.  From there we will to hike until Aguas Calientes village. Here we will stay in a hotel and we will have our last dinner.

For our last day we will have to catch a  early bus to reach the Machupicchu archeological site (it takes 30 minutes by bus). The site opens at 6:00 am and we will head towards the “guardian house” which is the perfect spot for “postcard” pictures and some of the best views. We will then start our guided tour, which will last approximately 2 hours, where we will visit the most important sites. After the tour you will have time to visit Machu Picchu on your own. You also have the option to climb the Huaynapicchu or Montaña Machupicchu mountains (these have to be reserved in advance). In the afternoon we will get on the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo and from there we will provide you with private transport to your hotel in Cusco.

It is considered a moderate to challenging trek due to the altitude and long distances. A good level of fitness is recommended.

Yes, but you should be in good physical condition. Acclimatization and mental preparation are key.

The best months are from April to October (dry season). However, the trek is available year-round depending on weather conditions.

It’s possible. We recommend staying in Cusco before the trek to acclimate. Drink water, rest, and avoid alcohol.

There is no strict age limit. However, participants should be in good health. Children and older adults should consult a doctor before trekking.
