The beautiful and impressive RAINBOW MOUNTAIN, which people from Ausangate call Cerro Colorado or simply Rainbow, is located South of Cusco, in a unique region of Peru. The different minerals and trace elements which the mountain is made of give it its distinctive colors. It is an area relatively unexplored and not well known. The trek will satisfy even the most demanding traveler looking to explore nature, thanks to its impressive panoramic views. - We recommend our visitors to arrive in Cusco at least 2 or 3 days before the Rainbow Mountain tour. This helps your body to acclimate to the high altitude, reducing the chances of altitude sickness during the hike.
- Cusco has only one main airport, Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport, and most flights arrive from Lima. This route is the fastest and most convenient way for tourists to reach the city.
- Traveling by bus from Lima to Cusco takes approximately 22 hours and can be quite exhausting. If you decide to travel overland, we suggest breaking the journey into sections such as Lima – Nazca – Arequipa – Puno – Cusco to make it more manageable.
- There are many hotels across Cusco city to suit all budgets and preferences. If you’d like help choosing or booking accommodation, we’ll be happy to recommend and assist.

- As for the weather, Rainbow Mountain sits at an elevation of about 5,200 m (17,060 ft), and Cusco at 3,350 m (11,050 ft). The weather in the Andes is highly variable. The best time to visit is during the dry season from April to October, as the trails are more stable and the views clearer. However, tours are available year-round, depending on weather conditions and your travel dates.
- Rainbow Mountain is one of the highest-altitude treks in the Cusco region, so it’s essential to take altitude seriously. The air becomes thinner and drier, which can make breathing more difficult. We strongly recommend arriving early to acclimatize before your tour.

Pick-up from your hotel in Cusco (3,350 m /11,50 ft.) Private transport to the village of Cusipata (4,200 m/13,860 ft.) 3-hour journey approximately Here we will have breakfast and then we will continue our journey. Along the way you will enjoy outstanding views of the Andes, glaciers, red mountains, rocky hills, and South American camels in their own environment. After a 2-hours climb we will arrive at the “Rainbow Mountain”, our final destination, which is located at (5,020m/16,566ft.) Here we will be able to observe the snow-capped mountain of Ausangate, the highest in the Cusco region. After we will visit to some locals who still maintain their traditional way of living and their own language which is called Qechua, the language of the Incas. After the visit we will go down the same way and enjoying our delicious lunch then board our private transport to return to your hotels in Cusco.
