PLACES TO SEE IN THE SACRED VALLEY:
PISAC:
The town of Pisac is approximately 20 miles from the City of Cusco and is also known as the Gateway to the Sacred Valley. It is world-renowned for its artisan markets and for its incredible archeological remains found at the highest point of this town. Pisac is also known for its fertile lands and is highly frequented for spiritual retreats.
URUBAMABA:
This is One of the most important cities of the Sacred Valley. It came to be during the Colonial Times and is known as the Corn Capital of the World. Numerous rivers (glacier run-offs) irrigate these fertile lands, and the Incas early on recognized the importance of this location. This is a great place for breakfast or lunch.
EXPERIMENTAL AGRICULTURALSITE OF MORAY:
This archeological zone stands out by displaying the system of circular platforms, which served as an experimental agricultural site. The platforms were used to test various plants in different elevations and orientations.
SALT MINE OF MARAS:
Over 3000 small salt flats are still cultivated to this day, harvesting salt transported from a natural spring in the Quaqwinay mountain.
OLLANTAYTAMBO
This City is located about 43 miles North-East of Cusco. During Inca times this city was fortified with defense walls and was home to temples and urban and agricultural sectors. It also served as an administrative control post. This is one of the most important archeological sites in Peru and all of South America. Aside from Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo is considered a perfect Inca city.
